Run by the Olsen family for generations, San Huberto sits within a 25,000-acre working estancia in the Filo Hua Hum valley, about 45 minutes from Chapelco airport near San Martín de los Andes. The lodge accommodates up to 16 guests across single and double rooms, with a comfortable shared lounge, a well-stocked bar, and a quincho built for long asado lunches — much of the produce coming straight from the estancia’s own garden.
The fishing centers on the Malleo, a gin-clear river ideal for sight-casting to rainbow and brown trout with dries, with the season running strongest from December through April. Guests also have exclusive property access to the Huaca Mamuil creek, another excellent dry-fly and sight-fishing water, while the Alumine River and Tromen Lake — both a short drive away — round out the options for anglers looking for a change of scenery or a shot at something bigger. Non-anglers can fill their days with horseback rides across the estancia or trekking toward Lanín Volcano.
As at any great Patagonian lodge, the day's water is chosen each morning based on conditions — flow, clarity, wind, and time of season — rather than a fixed rotation.
Day 1 — Arrival & First Cast
Transfer from San Martín de los Andes (approx. 45 minutes). Settle in, then an afternoon session on a home beat of the Malleo to get a first read on the river.
Days 2–5 — Fishing the Estancia and Beyond
- Clear, low water with fish holding in the open → classic dry-fly sight-fishing on the Malleo's home beats, spotting and stalking individual rainbows and browns.
- Wanting more intimate, technical water → a session on the Huaca Mamuil creek, right on the property.
- Looking for a change of scenery or bigger fish → a half-day trip to Tromen Lake, source of the Malleo, or a float on the Alumine River an hour away.
- Strong terrestrial activity in summer (Jan–Feb) → timing sessions around midday hopper and beetle falls for aggressive dry-fly takes.
Afternoons return to the lodge for asado, a soak, or a horseback ride out toward Lanín Volcano on non-fishing stretches.
Final Day — Departure
A closing session on the Malleo where timing allows, then transfer back to San Martín de los Andes for onward travel.

I don’t own fishing gear. Do you provide it?
No worries—we provide everything you need. All equipment is included and tailored to the waters you’ll be fishing, including rods, reels, lines, and flies.
Do I need to know how to fly fish?
Not at all. Our guides love introducing newcomers to this fascinating sport and will do their best to help you land your first trout on your very first fly-fishing experience. Alternatively, most of the waters we fish are also suitable for conventional spinning gear.
I’m vegetarian/vegan. Do you offer alternative food choices?
Absolutely. We’re happy to adapt meals to your dietary needs. Just let us know about any preferences or restrictions in advance, and we’ll make sure you enjoy the food as much as the scenery and the fishing.
What personal gear should I bring?
We provide all fishing equipment, food, and beverages. You should bring:
