The Chimehuín is arguably one of the most storied trout river in Patagonia, and considered by many to be responsible for putting Argentine fly fishing on the map. It’s the most famed fly fishing river in the world for rainbow and brown trout,  and it has been the destination of choice for traveling anglers since the sport first took hold here. It winds through beautiful ranch lands past the town of Junín de los Andes, the self-proclaimed National Trout Capital of Argentina, before joining the Collón Curá. Each day, we float a stretch of this legendary water, fishing prime times from sunrise to sunset. Because camp relocates as we work our way downriver, a dedicated team of cargo boys handles the logistics — breaking down camp each morning and having it fully set up again at the next site by the time you arrive off the water. After a full day on the river, you’ll arrive at camp to enjoy fine wines, cocktails, and a hearty dinner by the fire.

Accommodation on the Chimehuín River
We camp in the wild, at carefully selected backcountry sites chosen for their comfort, shelter, and river access. Accommodation is in spacious, private tents outfitted with NRS cots, air mattresses, warm sleeping bags, pillows, and side tables. To ensure maximum comfort, we usually host just two guests in each four-person tent. Dedicated dining and kitchen tents guarantee a comfortable experience in all weather conditions. Our cargo boys move ahead each day to strike camp, transport gear, and rebuild the full setup at the next site — so everything is ready and waiting when you come off the water.
Meals
Menus are arranged in advance and customized to your tastes. Here’s a sample of our most popular selections:
Breakfast: Fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, toast, cereal, yogurt, and excellent coffee.
Lunch: A unique menu each day, served riverside by your guides in the middle of your fishing adventure (vegan options available).
Dinner: Prepared by our staff on the griddle or the traditional Patagonian disk, featuring regional specialties such as Patagonian lamb — always a guest favorite.
The trip begins and ends in Bariloche. We meet at 7:00–8:00 AM at a designated point in Bariloche, then transfer toward Junín de los Andes and the Chimehuín, a drive of roughly two to two and a half hours.
Once the boat and gear are ready, we begin fishing around 9:00–10:00 AM, continuing until about 1:00 PM, when we pause for a riverside lunch. Afterward, we return to the water until approximately 4:00–5:00 PM, before arriving at that day’s campsite, moved downriver from the previous night’s location. There, our cargo boys and support team will have everything prepared so you can relax and unwind. As is standard practice on rivers of the Limay basin, all gear is disinfected at designated checkpoints before launching, to help control the spread of invasive aquatic algae.
As evening sets in, enjoy a freshly cooked dinner before resting for the next day’s adventure. After breakfast the following morning, we continue downstream, fishing new waters and exploring new stretches of river while the cargo boys go ahead to set up the next camp. This rhythm continues throughout your 3- to 4-day trip. On the final day, we take out and transfer back to Bariloche, returning you to your accommodation or original meeting point.

Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t own fishing gear. Do you provide it?
No worries—we provide everything you need. All equipment is included and tailored to the waters you’ll be fishing, including rods, reels, lines, and flies.
Do I need to know how to fly fish?
Not at all. Our guides love introducing newcomers to this fascinating sport and will do their best to help you land your first trout on your very first fly-fishing experience. Alternatively, most of the waters we fish are also suitable for conventional spinning gear.
I’m vegetarian/vegan. Do you offer alternative food choices?
Absolutely. We’re happy to adapt meals to your dietary needs. Just let us know about any preferences or restrictions in advance, and we’ll make sure you enjoy the food as much as the scenery and the fishing.
What personal gear should I bring?
We provide all fishing equipment, food, and beverages. You should bring:
- Sunglasses (essential for both safety and comfort while fishing)
- A warm layer, as Patagonia’s weather can change quickly
- A hat and sunscreen for sun protection
My partner doesn’t want to fish. Can they come along?
