A newer name among Northern Patagonia’s fishing lodges, Puente Negro sits directly on the banks of the Chimehuín, just a short transfer from San Martín de los Andes. The property hosts up to eight guests across well-appointed double rooms, each with a private bathroom — a size that keeps the atmosphere personal and unhurried.
What sets Puente Negro apart is reach: from the back patio, guests can wade or float the Chimehuín itself, while the lodge’s proximity to the paved road makes the Collón Curá, Malleo, and Alumine rivers all workable as day trips. That combination — home water outside the door and several backup rivers within easy range — gives guides real flexibility to chase the best conditions on any given day, whether that means dry-fly water on the Chimehuín or a change of scenery on the Alumine.
Puente Negro's location is built for options — the Chimehuín at the doorstep, with the Malleo, Collón Curá, and Alumine all reachable for a day's fishing. Each morning, the guides weigh conditions before setting the plan.
Day 1 — Arrival & Home Water
Transfer from San Martín de los Andes (about 10 minutes). An afternoon session on the Chimehuín right from the lodge — wading or a short float, depending on flow.
Days 2–5 — Fishing the Region
- Good hatch activity and clear flows on the Chimehuín → stay close to home, wading or floating one of its three main stretches for classic dry-fly sport.
- Wanting a change of water or the Chimehuín running high → a day trip to the Malleo for technical sight-fishing, or the Collón Curá for bigger, faster water.
- Looking to cover more ground → a float day on the Alumine River, working nymphs and streamers through varied structure.
- Slower midday conditions → timing sessions around the evening rise, when hatches on the Chimehuín tend to peak.
Days not spent on the river can include local shopping trips in San Martín de los Andes or simply relaxing lodge-side, with the Chimehuín running past the back patio.
Final Day — Departure
A last morning on the Chimehuín if conditions cooperate, then transfer back to the San Martín Airport for onward travel.
