Fly Fishing Bariloche, Patagonia, Argentina - Fishing Season

The fishing season in Patagonia goes from beginning of November to late May in most rivers with some lakes were we can fish all year around.

Spring time (November and December) is when days start to get longer and warmer and rivers getting glacier melting waters, hungry trout coming out of spawning will eat everything to get strong and weight back, in the first weeks of November we mostly fish sinking lines and streamers chasing big rainbows and Browns that still in the rivers eating the eggs and minnows. In late November and all December most of these trout will go back into the lakes to spend the summer there, is when we´ve found the best hatches of all year in the Rivers and Lakes. Dragonflies, Mayflies and Caddis are the main flies in the waters. All waters we fish are grate in spring, Limay River, Manso River, Malleo River, Alumine River, Caleufu River, Pichileufu River, Chimehuin River, CollonCura River, Fonk Lake, Hess Lake, Roca Lake, Mascardi Lake and NahuelHuapi Lake.

Summer time (January and February) Warmer days and waters give us the chance to spend more time fishing and to do it without waders and with light clothes. Trout are already fat and strong and more selective to feed, this´ll be more challenging to make them take and also to land them, because fights are the best at this time. Hatches are out almost every they especially in the morning and sunsets. We fish fastest waters in the rivers where the water has more oxygen and holds big groups of trout. Rivers like Manso, Chimehuin, Alumine, Malleo, CollonCura and Caleufu are the most productive at this time.

Fall time (March, April and May) is when weather start getting colder and days shorter, this is the signal that tell trout to start thinking on reproduction again, this will push trout into the rivers, mostly big browns that is the first one to spoon. At this Time the Limay River will give a unique chance to find trophy fish that all fisherman will love to find (up to 18 pound in some cases). We will fish them with sinking lines and big streamers with the chance to make them take with some big dries. Rivers like Manso, Chimehuin, Alumine, CollonCura and Caleufu also get big numbers of good browns, smaller than Limay this can get up to 10 pound and are big found to fish with smaller streamers and dries.

Fishing license will allow you to fish in all Patagonia, you can buy a day, week or full season depending how many days you will stay around, is easy to find in every town and we can also provide you. Every place have different rules and they are specified with your license.
